Fishing on the River Arrow

The River Arrow is a little gem of a river that gently winds its way through the Herefordshire countryside; running along the boundary of Arrow Bank Holiday Park, winding its way through the pretty black and white village of Eardisland, it finally finishing its journey entering the River Lugg near Leominster.
The river supports an abundance of wildlife with many different varieties of birds: Kingfishers, Dippers, Woodpeckers, many different varieties of Tits, with larger birds, Buzzards and Owls also in residence. Otters live along the river and can often be seen playing on one of the many gravel bars on the Arrow.

Fishing the river at times can be difficult, especially after heavy rain when the colour and pace can change quickly, but when the river is right it can be very rewarding! There are a number of species to fish, Trout and Grayling are plentiful, both species have been caught to 3lbs in weight. The May Fly hatch on the river at times, this spectacle can only be described as brilliant, should you be lucky enough to see it. There are plenty of Chub in the Arrow some weighing 3lbs plus; some Dace, and a few small Pike in the lower half of the river towards Leominster. One of the best methods of catching all the above species (excluding pike) is drifting a stick float down river, or the use of a small maggot feeder, both methods work well.
Fishing from March 14th to June 16th is limited to Fly Fishing only; with lots of trees along the river this can be difficult depending on your level of skill, but there are some open areas further along the river where you can obtain the necessary permissions to fish.
From June 16th to March 14th it is Course Fishing Open Season, when you are allowed to use baits like maggots, worm, bread, pellets, etc.
